"I didn't say no... but it felt wrong."
How often do we hear such words from young people who aren't sure if what happened to them was okay? How often are they made to feel that it was their own fault? That shows how blurred society's understanding of consent is—and how urgently this needs to change.
We want to create safe spaces where young people can talk about sensitive topics without fear of judgment or shame.
Our research project spans three months. First, we analyze social media content, interview experts, and develop initial ideas. Then, we will test participatory formats—from Forum Theatre to social choreographies—with young people in Berlin youth centers. Our focus is particularly on queer youth and youth with a migration background, who are often in more vulnerable positions.
Through a series of test workshops, we aim to find out how young people can best talk about personal boundaries and consent. The results will be compiled into a Best Practices Handbook to serve as a resource for artists and educators.
Research was selected by Jury of the Research fellowship 2025 from Berlin Senate department for Culture and Social Cohesion
